Roadwork Update

October 24, 2017 Update:

The warmer, mild weather is giving an extension to the road construction out front of the Post. The Agency of Transportation project manager and the crew superintendent from G.W. Tatro both tell me the work will continue as long as the weather is cooperative.

The primary focus is to complete the work at the south end of the project at the Bay Road/U.S. Route 2&7 intersection. This includes the traffic signals for better flow management at that intersection, final paving, Grading and landscaping of the roadsides and new traffic directing signage and pavement striping and markings. The driveway work for the gas station should be done before snow shuts the work down until spring time.

Meanwhile up at the Legion end of the job, work will continue as weather may extend favorably. The biggest concern of our members is the driveways. None of our driveways will be closed UNTIL the new driveway shared with the trailer park is completed. This includes The new traffic light with crosswalk signals to allow crossing from the Legion property to Creek Farm Road (This will be helpful for patrons that may need to park across the road if our lot is full) and the paving is done. Once the new driveway is completed our existing driveways will be closed, new granite curbs installed both on the road side and our parking lot side. There will also be a new multi use pedestrian/bile path in the tree belt between the road and the parking lot. Also the driveway to the Pierre Apartments will be moved closer to Claussen’s and we will not share a driveway with the apartments. This will also mean our lot will be shortened slightly as that strip of asphalt belongs to the Pierre Apartments.

The road flaggers are a great bunch and they promise they will do their best to get you in and out of our lot. When leaving the Post, please use the northern most driveway opening ( nearest the trailer park). There will always be a flagger there if work is going on and will give you the all clear when you can exit the parking lot. Please be patient, they are there to get you in and out safely.

Once the weather forces the shut down of construction, all surfaces that were paved, road and parking lot will be repaved for snowplowing and driver safety. There should be no dirt surface in our lot or in the road for the winter.

I attend the meetings at the project office and get e-mail updates frequently and will get the info to you, our members and patrons as quickly as I can. The inconvenience is temporary, the benefits will be long lasting. Please don’t be deterred from visiting the Post, we need your patronage.

Update 27 October, 2017:

VT Route 2A had the road surface torn up this past week for storm sewer work and the road bed was improved. Next week the contractor, G. W. Tatro, will fine grade Route 2A in preparation for paving.  If travelling on VT Route 2A between Claussen’s and the Post, you will be driving on unpaved road surfaces so you will need to drive slowly until the area is paved.

On Tuesday, October 31, the contractor will start to install new granite curbs near Bay Road / Route 7.Paving may also begin  next week, weather permitting. When there are two active work areas in different areas of the project, there may be a longer delay than when work is confined to one area. These delays should not be more than a couple extra minutes. Please be patient!

Access to the Legion parking lot will remain OPEN at all times.

PLEASE DRIVE WITH CAUTION THROUGH THE WORK ZONE AND “HANDS FREE” IF USING A CELL PHONE.

When talking to your friends and family, remember to say “Meet Me At The Legion!”
Thanks for you patience and we want you to come to the Post.
Thank you,
Bill Schmitt
